DevComms South East strike success for OUFC
Our South East team are proud to have assisted Oxford United Football Club (OUFC) in securing a resolution to grant planning permission for its new 16,000 seat stadium by Cherwell District Council’s planning committee last month.
The proposed stadium – the UK’s first all-electric powered football ground – will be located on land known locally as the Triangle, close to Oxford Parkway railway station.
After being appointed in summer 2024, the team were responsible for devising and delivering a tailored programme of political and stakeholder engagement on the £130m project to convey the significant benefits, both for the local community and Oxfordshire more widely, and setting out the very special circumstances that make the project acceptable on this green belt site.
“DevComms played a pivotal role at a crucial stage in our stadium project. Their ability to provide clear political insight, shape our engagement strategy and prepare us for Committee was hugely valuable. The team worked closely with us to ensure our case was put forward in the strongest possible way, helping secure an overwhelming 14–1 approval. Their contribution made a real difference in achieving this vital milestone for the Club.”

Activity included a targeted Mailchimp campaign to Oxfordshire councillors, fan mobilisation, a community open letter, and crafting a powerful speech which was delivered at the Planning Committee.
The strategy combined local engagement with MPs and councillors across all levels, alongside national outreach to ministers and parliamentary committees. This reflected the need for government referral of the planning application and highlighted how the stadium supports national growth priorities as well as securing the football club’s future.
