Innovation quarter and private hospital
The challenge
The Talbot Trust in partnership with Nuffield Health proposed one of the most high-profile sites in the BCP area for an innovation quarter. The site was within 400m of protected Talbot Heath, requiring extremely careful management in the face of significant and organised local opposition. The scheme coincided with the May 2023 local elections.
Our approach
DevComms undertook political, stakeholder and community engagement through exhibition events, workshops, project website, wide scale mailings and meetings.
Separate focused engagement was undertaken with site neighbours to understand views of proposed boundary treatments resulting in positive changes to the proposals.
The outcome
Several local stakeholders supported the planning application and spoke at committee. The planning application was subsequently approved at appeal.
