c. 3,000 homes on a 219-hectare greenfield site
The challenge
Taylor Wimpey's 219-hectare greenfield site between Aylesbury, Weston Turville and Stoke Mandeville faced organised, strong local opposition including a well-funded Action Group. The site was surrounded by four parish councils and the application was presented to committee twice owing to changes in the Council's evidence base.
Our approach
DevComms built constructive relationships with an extremely broad range of stakeholders: all Council members, four Parish Councils, the local MP, Aylesbury Town Board, local residents and interest groups. Active media management was maintained throughout to counter opposition narratives.
The outcome
Outline planning permission was secured ahead of Local Plan adoption, with a resolution to grant achieved on both committee presentations. The strategic Local Plan allocation was also protected against substantial local opposition in the emerging plan.
