Vauxhall Bridge Hotel, Westminster
8-storey hotel and subsequent apart-hotel scheme
The challenge
4C Hotels proposed a new 8-storey hotel on Vauxhall Bridge Road, Westminster, in a sensitive location adjacent to the Cathedral Area Conservation Area. There was significant interest from influential stakeholder groups, local councillors and residents. An initial application had been refused.
Our approach
Following the initial refusal, DevComms undertook substantial engagement with the local community through nine meetings and consultation events. Agreement was reached on the scheme and support was achieved from all parties including the Westminster Society and Cathedral Area Residents Group.
The outcome
The application was unanimously approved in April 2020 at Westminster City Council's first ever virtual planning committee. A subsequent apart-hotel application by the new owners was also unanimously approved in June 2022.
